This is great! I have a couple of ideas to bring to the discussion if we need a kick or two to get started.

Actually, there are some huge "trends in sf" im curious to know what writers think of...some of them quite controversial. Looking forward to this discussion.

Now that Camp NaNoWriMo is over, we will (or will not) have a little more time to chat again. In any case the next SW Fantasy Chat will be on Tuesday, August 14 already and its starting topic will be The Hero's Journey by Joseph CampbellIf you never read anything about it you can get a first overview here for example.
See you on August 14 at 10am Eastern Time on Discord!
You are also welcome to bring more topics to discuss in future months!

Just recently went through the Bill Moyers series on Joseph Campbell. Hamilton public library has it as an audiobook. Found many of the ideas interestingly. Needless to say, looking forward to this topic.

Hello guys, sorry but I cant make it to the discussion today. Unfortunately my internet is down. I tried a few things to fix my phone but its giving trouble.
I am going to the library but I will already have a client there so will have to work. Hopefully I can get to dischord and comment on the discussion there by the end of the week. In any case will see you all next time.

Tuesday, October 9 would technically be our next SW Fantasy Chat date. Who would like it to take place then? I would very much recommend that we repeat the last, as well as the July topic, The Hero's Journey, and Current Trends in Speculative Fiction, at some point, so that the ones who suggested those topics can actually be present for the discussion. I was looking forward to hearing what you had to say very much. I also wonder if the day and time we appointed is actually (still) a helpful one for each of us? Elizabeth, you very much sounded like it is not? (For me it's fine but many other options would be quite as well.) For everyone with a common 9 to 5 work schedule, it would obviously be not, so we might actually be preventing interested people from joining us, if we keep the time of day like that, I can't tell. Let me know your thoughts, so I can announce the next chat as promised?

Tuesdays are very busy for me after 12pm, so the current time is still the best...for now!

Not sure if you would rather want to just go and see who would appear on Discord after all? Then I'd be sorry to say this now. Well you can still do that at any time! But you wanted me to make the announcements and decisions, and at this point I think it is best to adjourn the SW Fantasy Chat indefinitely. I think it would be good if the ones who wished for the topics could participate in the discussion at least sometimes.
No worries, I'll have an eye on this thread and will be here to announce a next chat whenever you are ready! So watch this space for more, and let me know your suggestions, if you want to keep up your idea of this event and make it happen!

Also, I'm still very aware that FWG originally suggested we should just have the chat date once per month, on the second Tuesday, without a particular topic announced. Then everybody could just go there if they have time and feel like it. Would you maybe like it like that? Just a thought.

Hi I had to work Tuesday and couldn't make it. Im thinking it might make sense to treat it more like a forum than a live event, where people just add their ideas when they come on. Probably for the next few months I wont be able to commit to specific times beyond work and write ins. Since no comments on dischord, im getting the impression others feel similarly.

It might work to have an ongoing chat? Personally I don't keep discord open on a regular basis--I find it too distracting--but I would love to get some discussions going on these topics. Sorry I haven't been more active in participating in these. It isn't the timing really, it's remembering that it's happening and mainly just trying to cram one more thing into an already tight schedule.

Sure, I certainly encourage you to try! Whatever works. I don't have Discord open for anything else than this ever, actually. But it is the last forum Chris created for us? So. I turned on notifications for now to notice when something was said. I might turn them off again once I seriously start any writing--or else I have to see if I can limit them to email. Desktop flashing each time somebody types something is more than distracting indeed...
So, yes, let's try it as ongoing conversation! Do you have any way in mind how to get us started? And if for a particular topic?
