I guess our first session will be Tuesday June 12. Some topics I remember from our write-in was:
Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell -This might be a good topic for a later month since we might want to read something in advance
D&D world building -Probably should pick a specific thing like..elven themes, since this could be a thousand discussions
Short Story or Flash Fiction -Elizabeth recommended something but forget what it was...she will have to remind us ;-)

Hey! I'm really looking forward to this. Possible topics: Current trends in fantasy publishing -choose a short piece or two to read and discuss -We could also start with something like this article: Fiction Trends to Watch Our For in 2017 and BeyondWorldbuilding General Principles -I'm honestly a bit excited to get our resident dungeon master's take on how to go about world building and see what we can apply to writing fiction This is just a start! Looking forward to it.

PS the Discord link you provided expired. Here's one that doesn't: discord.gg/2xe5XVCI'll make the room and link back with it. ETA: Room is here: discord.gg/4WpVE5tSorry for all the random edits. I've an abscess tooth and between fever/antibiotics and pain I'm a mess and my brain's not functioning well.

Tuesday June 12 SW Fantasy ChatI suggest we don't start out with an all too narrow topic for our very first meeting. Who ever is enthusiastic about writing or reading fantasy in any way--please feel invited to just drop in and bring your ideas!Canvid and Elizabeth, I see you both suggested worldbuilding topics, which I always find intriguing myself, and we don't need to prepare anything for those in the little remaining time. I think most of us either already did work on creating their own story's realms or has been tempted to at times? So how about if we each bring our experiences and questions aboutWorldbuildingbe it from D&D gaming or from your latest epic fantasy (or sci fi?) novel series. How do you begin such a huge and time consuming project of which big parts will even always stay hidden from your audience? Do you go about after particular principles and in which order do you determine things? What traps and contradictions did you already end up in once (or twice)?
Depending on who will be online and wish for particular topics, we can still pick more specific questions to discuss within the chat!
I'm excited to meet you on Tuesday, 10 am Eastern Time in the brandnew #sw-fantasy-chat room on Discord!

No worries Liz, just ask if you guys need something. I've been AWOL because no transpo to write in's and now I look like a dang chipmunk with my abscess so I'm probably AWOL for the next two months as I get that sorted. I'm at my computer most times though so just ping me.

I think world building is a great first topic. We can always get more specific later.

Thanks for the fix, sickboy. I think in the 1990s I thought I knew something about computers because I could make a cube change colours in basic..

When you said trends in Fantasy publishing, I assume you meant creative (as opposed to business) right? I would be open to that topic too. Yup! Developing / anticipated hot topic stories, plots, themes. The article I pointed to would be a good starting point, although I'm no expert whatsoever on this. I would like it if we included all flavours of spec fic, since this is a big topic. [sorry I couldn't be present for more of yesterday's chat—a lot ended up going on yesterday morning]

Of course, if you are still fine with the pattern, the next session will be on July 10.
Do you want the next topic to be determined already? I suggest to still give some time for suggestions from others.

Okay, I think it is time to determine the new topic, particularly because, this time, there will be something to prepare for it. As several of you showed interest in it, the topic for the next SW Fantasy Chat will be Current trends in Speculative Fiction
If you don't have enough overview about the topic yet, like me, you are encouraged to read this article beforeward: Fiction Trends to Watch Our For in 2017 and Beyond to give us some starting point and basis for the discussion about new and old themes, motifs, plots, ..., in recent fantasy, sci fi, horror, ... stories that excited you, or you still want to read, that you are writing, or can't wait to write. See you on July 10 from 10 am Eastern time on, in the #sw-fantasy-chat room of #Hamnano on Discord!
