Struggling myself today as well. I managed to barely reach 4k, and have no internet or hydro, so I'm waiting on a friend to pick me up so we can sit at Second Cup and hopefully keep a spot there for a few hours for me to get some stuff done.

Not to make light of your hydro situation, but there's always pen and paper, and at least your dominant hand isn't broken this time? Wow. I can't believe I just typed that sentence. All strength to you, Nixy, and much respect for any more words you get down. My week is busy. Last night was the meditation facilitator's course that I'm taking. Last night was my turn to lead - this is not a course with grades or anything, but this was the equivalent of my exam. It went really, really well. I'm super happy with how it turned out, and got great feedback from the participants and my instructor, so yay! Also, a major source of distraction and worry off my plate. Now there's just a pesky workshop to lead on Sunday, and I should be much more free to write. Just concerned that by the time next week rolls around, I'll be too far behind to make it up. Sigh. All words are good words; onward and upward, right?

All words are definitely good words. Anything you write this month are words you don't have to write next month. Or something.
I'm curious, what's hydro, and how does it affect your writing? I'm guessing electricity?
I'm still plodding along. Ahead of my goal, and passed the 20k mark.
But I'm feeling rather disillusioned about self publishing (or publishing in general), and wondering if I'm ever going to make any money at this. I could really do with some money about now, not the least so I can invest it in my books and hopefully make more money!

Good on passing 20k, Rinelle! Should we have a self-pub / publishing in general talk in a separate thread? I've been thinking lately that I need to bump up my game, maybe start looking for an agent. Long story short (ha) it's tough to make money writing fiction, but not impossible, I hope. They ("they") say it's not a great idea to go into writing fiction with the idea that you're doing it for the money. Yeah, most of us would have given up somewhere around the second or third month if not the second or third week if we had the idea that it should be bringing in income. BUT generally speaking I approach this with the idea that it is possible to make some money. Keep going, I'd say, especially if you enjoy it. You definitely won't make anything if you stop.
RE: hydro, because in Ontario the original source of electricity was Niagara Falls. Even though more of our energy comes from nuclear and gas / oil now, the name stuck.

I did start a self pubishing thread somewhere? Happy to chat there if you want.
There is plenty of money to be made in early-publishing. Lots of people are making quite good money, and relatively quickly too. My problem isn't so much making money, as the time it takes. That, and many days I need to choose between writing, and my 'day job' which does make money. I just want writing to make heaps of money so I can devote all my time to it!

Ha! I thought it was some fancy new term I hadn't heard of. What's your day job, if you don't mind me asking?

Also darn this site for not showing me email notifications on any of the threads I bookmarked.

I sell stock photography through an online website. I think you've mentioned photos before. Neat! I guess if you want to focus more on writing, it's a matter of slowly changing the ratio of where you spend your time? I know writing is slow going for any kind of income generation. There are ways to do it, but it isn't fun writing / fiction writing where you're likely to be bringing in the $$.

Things got hectic and busy last week, but I have some time to focus on writing now.

Okay I've been writing. A bit. I'm just shy of 10k now - 9526, with plans to burn if over the next few days. According to my stats page I only (only) need 2530 / day to finish on time, which seems crazy given how many days I haven't written, but hey, math.

Go Elizabeth. You can do it.
I've been doing a minimum of 2400 a day to reach my super secret 70,000 word goal for the month, but I think I've burnt myself out. Only managed a little over 1K yesterday, and nothing today. Hoping to catch up tomorrow and over the weekend. Still, I'm at 35k, so I'll definitely reach my public goal of 50k, which is still quite an achievement, and will see me a fair way into the book.

Public vs. super secret goals are never a bad idea. Either way you're doing really well.
Got some words down early this morning- very unusual for me! Haven't counted those yet b/c I'm adding to them now, but yesterday's end of day total took me into quintuple digits - 10375!
